Forced Perspective Hill

Eugene Onegin | Santa Fe Opera | design by Gary McCann | 2021

800 square foot modular foam hill covered in shag carpet that was draped, adhered, and stapled down, organically sculpted into mounds with sheep shears, then colored with bleach and dye by Ryan Miller. The hill was dressed by a team of five scenic artists with over 20 different types of faux grasses in a forced perspective, fading from dense and tall grass into just the carpet on the upstage part of the hill. 32 real aspen trees, structurally reinforced and dressed in fall foliage (ranging from 3 feet to 20 feet tall) by the prop shop, were then installed into the hill and stage. Dressing took place over one month, with help from the Santa Fe Opera scenic artist and prop shop.

Library Dressing

Sleuth | McCarter Theatre Center | design by Alexander Dodge | 2020

A combination of Vacuform books and real books, along with board games and assorted mystery novel items, used to dress the set in two days, with assistance from the McCarter props team.
